The Boardman Lady Spartans Varsity team dropped their opening game of the season on Monday night to a very tough Liberty Leopards team. Turnovers and cold shooting for the Spartans and second chance points for the Leopards were the story of the first half as Liberty raced out to a large halftime lead the Spartans could not overcome.
The Spartans shot 20/40 from the free throw line and only 10/47 from the field on the night.
Junior PG Raegan Burkey led the Spartans in scoring with 11 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. Freshman Gia Triveri added 9 points in her first high school game. Maria Torres in limited action in her first court time since January notched 6 points. Emma Tokarsky added 5 points and 4 rebounds while Katie Stamp scored 3 while adding 9 rebounds. Also entering the scoring column for Boardman was Jenna Olexa and Bailey Moore with 3, Bella Martin with 2 and Serene Khatib with a free throw.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday, December 1 versus Indian Creek @Walsh University in North Canton at 4pm.
