The Boardman Spartans JV Team dropped the last game of its 2018 season at home last Saturday, 10/20/18, against crosstown rivals, Austintown Fitch.

It was a tale of 2 halves for Boardman, as they started slow in the 1st half, giving up 22 unanswered points to a gritty Austintown offense that appeared to be moving the ball at will, and making points hard to come by for the Spartans offense.

The 2nd half was a mirror image of the first, as the Spartan offense caught fire, scoring 4 touchdowns, and connecting on 2 of 4 Two Point Conversions. Juniors Zach Ryan, Wrentie Martin, and Zach Johnson featured prominently in those 2nd half scoring drives, with Johnson accounting for all 4 of the touchdown receptions in that 28-point 2nd half effort from the Spartan offense. The Spartan defense, however, gave up a score on the ground to the Falcon offense midway through the 4th Quarter, as well as the 2 point attempt after the score.

Despite the valiant 2nd Half effort, the Spartans comeback quest ultimately fell just short, as their last 2 point try after the touchdown fell incomplete to the turf. With just over 20 seconds left in the game, Fitch was able to assume its victory formation, and take a knee to preserve the victory.
