Boardman went on the road to Cardinal Mooney and captured a big win in front of an electric crowd. The night have capped off with Senior Holden Lipke reaching the 1,000 point milestone for his career. Lipke become the first boy at Boardman to reach the 1,000 point mark since Jim Goske in 1991.
Boardman was down 20-12 after one quarter by a great team defensive effort in the 2nd quarter limited Mooney to just 2 points and allowed the Spartans to take a 28-22 halftime lead. The defensive effort continued in the 3rd, once again the Spartans held Mooney to single digits. Boardman was a Ken to stretch he lead behind unselfish passing and hot shooting from a Lipke.
Lipke ended his historic night with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Behind him was a great team effort. Derrick Anderson contributed 9 points, Cam Kreps 6 points 5 rebounds. Mike Melewski added 5 points and 4 assists. JaJuantae Young, Che Trevena and Ryan Archey each chipped in with 4 points. Connor Miller rounded off the scoring with 2 points.
Boardman is now 7-11 on the season. The Spartans travel to Louisville to face a talented Leopard squad on Tuesday. Boardman returns home for their next 3 games beginning next Friday vs East.
