Congratulations to the girls varsity track team, and Head Coach Rick Sypert and his coaching staff on an impressive performance at the OHSAA District Track and Field Meet held at Austintown Fitch. The Spartans finished 7th in the team scoring and will advance five events to the OHSAA Regional Meet held next week at Fitch. The top four in each event from the District Meet move on to Regionals.
Senior Emily Carnahan and sophomore Raegan Burkey took District Runner-up honors in the shot put and 800 meter run respectively. Carnahan threw 36’2 1/2” and Burkey ran a time of 2:18.58 to claim 2nd place honors. Senior Kaylin Burkey placed third in the 300 hurdles with at time of 48.99. Two relays claimed fourth place to advance: the 4 x 200 meter relay team of Julia Schrembeck, Destinee Hayes, Emma Tokarsky and Bella Alvarico running 1:49.03 and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Schrembeck, Tokarsky, Alvarico, and Raegan Burkey running 4:04.66.
The Regional prelims will be on Wednesday, May 22 with the finals set for Friday, May 24. Congratulations again to our Lady Spartans on a great performance at the League and District Meets.
