Boys Varsity Baseball · Boys Baseball Team Defeats Massillon Washington 2-1 In Nine Innings, Advances To Sectional Finals Against Massillon Jackson

Congratulations to the boys varsity baseball team for advancing to the Sectional Finals this Thursday.  On Tuesday, the Spartans defeated the Massillon Tigers 2-1 in an exciting game that went 9 innings.  Junior pitcher Tyler Peterson went the entire 9 innings for the Spartans.  The Tigers had the bases loaded with no outs when Peterson struck out two and then retired the final Tiger batter on a ground out.  Tyler struck out five and gave up 7 hits in the victory.

The Tigers were ahead 1-0 through 5 innings.  In the top of the sixth,  Tyler Peterson scored on a sacrifice fly by Cam Kreps to tie the game.   Then Kreps doubled in the top of the ninth and scored the go-ahead run on Luke Stauffer’s RBI single.

The Spartans will now play the #1 seed Massillon Jackson Polar Bears on Thursday, May 16 at 5:00 p.m. at Jackson.  Their overall team record is now 15-13 and have won 12 of their last 13 games.  Good luck to our Spartans led by Head Coach Joe Gabriel.
