Boys Varsity Baseball · Boardman Varsity Baseball Team Defeats Poland 4-3 In Their Last Regular Season Game To Win 11 Out Of Their Last 12 Games

The Boardman boys varsity baseball team ended their regular season with a 14-13 record defeating the Poland Bulldogs in an exciting performance.  The Spartans have now won 11 out of their last 12 games, gaining momentum heading into tournament time.

In their first game of the year, the Bulldogs defeated the Spartans by a score of 5-4.  The Bulldogs entered Friday’s game with a nine game winning streak.  But Spartan senior Cam Kreps, in his first pitching debut of the year struck out 12 without yielding an earned run.  The Spartans took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning as led off the inning with a single Charlie Davis and then scored.  In the same inning, Luke Stauffer scored on a fielder’s choice by Mike Fetsko.

The Bulldogs tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth but the Spartans went ahead 3-2 on Travis Harvey’s RBI single in the bottom of the 6th inning.  In the 7th inning, the Bulldogs evened the game at 3-3 but Charlie Davis’s walk-off single for the Spartans scored the winning run.

The Spartans will now head into OHSAA Tournament action with a Sectional Semifinal game on Tuesday, May 14 at Massillon Washington High School.  The Spartans are seeded 9th and the Tigers are ranked 8th and will play at 5:00 p.m.  The winner will advance to the Sectional Final game against the #1 seed Massillon Jackson Polar Bears.  Good luck to our Spartan baseball team Tuesday night.
