In Phase 3 of the Spartan Stadium Project, one of the projects included the renovation and resurfacing of the track. That project began this summer in early July. The all-weather track was first completed in 1991 when all meets were moved from Boardman Center to the new high school track. Twenty-five years later, the track surface was in need of not only resurfacing but a total renovation. The old track was dug out taking approximately one week to complete. A new asphalt base for the track was completed in two weeks allowing it time to cure.
Beginning the week of July 31, the track resurfacing project will begin. It includes 8-9 layers of a rubberized surface and striping of the track. The new track surface will now be level with the turf and cover the concrete curb.
