Girls Varsity Track · Knickerbocker and Zaitzew Advance From The Girls Track Team To Regional Competition Next Week, Team Places 7th At Districts

GIRLS TRACKThe Spartan varsity girls track and field team finished in 7th place overall at the Division I District Track and Field Meet held at Austintown Fitch.  The top four places in each event earned the right to advance to Regional competition next week.  Senior Jessica Knickerbocker and junior Casey Zaitzew advanced to the OHSAA Division I Regionals in the 100 high hurdles and 3200 meter run.  Zaitzew was the District Champion in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:34.95.  This is her third trip to the Regional Meet.  Knickerbocker placed 3rd in the 100 high hurdles with a third place finish and a time of 16.0 in the finals.  In the semi-finals, she ran a career best time of 15.66 to break her own school record again in the high hurdles.

Jessica will be in the semi-finals of the 100 high hurdles on Wednesday, May 24 with the top eight advancing to the finals on Friday, May 26.  Casey will run the 3200 as a final on Friday, May 26.  Good luck to both girls as they are one step away from qualifying to the OHSAA State Meet.
